Pulling a Dorian Gray
Do you know the Oscar Wilde story of Dorian Gray? A mean-spirited man, he somehow maintained the appearance of youth and beauty while his portrait reflected the truth of his aging, egotistical self.
Sometimes, where our dreams are concerned, we take a similar approach but with a major difference. We externalize the ugliness rather than keep it hidden behind the curtain.

Be Still
Be still. A refrain I often tell my kids. Be still. They are constantly in motion and try to take me with them. School has started with the usual frenzy of new schedules, new teachers, and, now, completely new environments (my youngest is starting middle school and my second child will be joining her oldest brother in high school). In spite of all that, the rest of life keeps going on with its usual business: the car still requires maintenance, the house still needs cleaning, and my husband and I must still go to work.
On my first day back from a wonderful vacation, I hit the ground running: rushing from one appointment to another and picking up my kids from one place or another; taking care of the endless tasks and responsibilities of daily life. Imagine A Different ViewMs. Alfreda has over twenty-five years of experience as a counselor and holds both a BA in Psychology and a MA in Counseling. We apply the term “magical thinking” to children during their early developmental stages. By 18 months, they create imaginary worlds in play; by three, they differentiate between reality and fantasy; but until seven or eight, they’ll still believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. They’ll wish upon stars and birthday candles and continue their creative pursuits all using this magical approach.
Adult Magical Thinking
Symbolic moral and ethical legends found in fairytales, cartons, animated movies, and children’s books are portrayed through talking animals, mystical creatures, magic, and happily-ever-after.
